HSBC Philippines named International Retail Bank of the Year by Asian Banking and Finance Awards 2021

HSBC Philippines’ retail bank has been recognised by Asian Banking and Finance (ABF) Retail Banking Awards as International Retail Bank of the Year.



Among the Bank’s notable achievements that earned ABF’s prestigious citation are its digital innovations, financial relief for its customers, credit card promotions with a cause, contributions to the community, and its commitment to transition to a net zero global economy by 2050.

HSBC has accomplished extraordinary achievements in 2020, surpassing challenges with much resilience while continuing to provide the best service to its customers and making an impact to the community.

HSBC Philippines continues to invest in digital innovations helping customers adapt to the changing digital landscape. “We have seen our customers appreciate our online and mobile banking apps, that resulted to increased activations and upsurge in the number of digital transactions in 2020 by 24%. We continue to make Global Money transfers convenient at their fingertips and free of charge*, making our digital channels essential during these times,” shared Peter Faulhaber, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking, HSBC Philippines.

HSBC takes pride in its global presence and local expertise, bringing customers a world of opportunity to expand their investment portfolios around the globe. It also helps customers plan for their children’s educational future abroad, through overseas education solutions to support the child’s life away from home.




In support of the community, HSBC has always been active in its efforts to not only come up with relevant and timely programmes to help ease the financial well-being of our customers, but also introduced credit card promotions that helped rebuild the country, and continue to support those who need it most.

HSBC partnered with its retail customers and received ~PHP7Mn in donations that helped the medical community, fed the hungry and made online distance learning more accessible, which has contributed to:

  • 16,000+ cups of coffee donations to 44 hospitals
  • Php4Mn donation which provided 17,737 meals for impoverished families, 8,715 meals and 3,873 hygiene kits for the homeless.
  • Helped build six Intensive Care Units plus contributed to building an Emergency Quarantine Facility.
  • ~PHP1.5Mn was accumulated from the Back to School campaign, providing tablets to support online distance learning for impoverished families in schools in Manila, Pasig, Quezon City and Pampanga.

For the wider community, HSBC donated ~PHP6M (USD125K) to the following beneficiaries:

  • PHP2.45M to International Care Ministries to distribute meal packs and home farming kits to impoverished communities
  • PHP550,000 to Upskills+ Foundation to provide food, water, and hygiene kits to stranded families in Tondo during ECQ
  • PHP3M to SOS Children’s Villages Philippines’ Alternative Learning Programme for laptops, projectors, and software enabling the youth to continue schooling.
  • Employee donations of Php333,000 to Philippine Red Cross for frontline workers

In October 2020, HSBC announced an ambitious plan to prioritise financing and investment that supports the transition to a net zero global economy, with a pledge to reduce financed emissions from the portfolio of customers to net zero by 2050 or sooner.

The Asian Banking and Finance Retail Banking Awards honors outstanding banks that have introduced groundbreaking retail banking products and services that proved to be industry game changers. HSBC was also named International Retail Bank of the Year by ABF Awards in China, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
